Breeding Birds

Birds are an excellent bio-indicator of environmental changes, including impact of farming practices. In many European countries birds are used in the evaluation of the effectiveness of agri-environment program. In addition, an important indicator used by the European Commission in the evaluation of Common Agricultural Policy is the Farmland Bird Index.

The main objective of the planned monitoring is to assess the impact of different ways of farming on the diversity of birdlife. The research will be carried out from 2012 to 2016. This assessment will be made on the basis of the number of birds in all designated squares on agricultural land.
